This week was Malia's first week of Kindergarten! It was easier than I thought and although I expected full waterworks when I dropped her off, all that happened was that I got a little misty-eyed (go me!). Of course on her first day I took a bunch of photos and I thought I would let you all in on what a typical photo shoot with Malia is like. Here goes:
Right off the bat, I get a decent photo. Malia is cooperating and everything is going smoothly.
After a few photos Malia pulls out her best 'fake smile'.
I ask her to do her best 'First-Day-of-Kindergarten' pose. This is the gem she pulls out. This cracked me up.
Some more fake smiles...
...and some more...

...so I ask her to laugh so I can get a real smile...
Then she finds a roly-poly bug and is immediately distracted...
...and cannot be bothered to look up for several minutes.
I finally convince her to look up and she gives me the 'Mom-I-can't-believe-you-aren't-done-yet-and-this-is-the-best-I-can-do-until-you-leave-me-alone' face.
Then since she won't smile normal I just take some profile shots. This one makes me smile. Look at her eyes!
She looks up and notices I am still taking pictures and gives me her best effort.
And then she tries REALLY hard. A little too hard.
Then Malia gets distracted once again by these little white 'weed' flowers.
Now it's time to head to school and Malia is super excited! She is, however, slightly less excited when I pull out my camera in front of the school.
But she puts her best foot forward when I promise (with my fingers crossed behind my back) that this will be the last one if she will just smile nicely.
After a while, she can't even be bothered to stand up any longer. Poor kid. She's exhausted. All she wants to do is go to her first day of Kindergarten. This may be my favorite pic of the day.
Finally they are lined up by the door of their classroom and they are ready to go inside! Malia smiles at me one last time (because her teacher said 'Smile for your parents and tell them goodbye') before she heads to class, homework in hand. At this point I am scrambling to take any photo I can and they are way overexposed...
