Collection Disconnection #6 - Fairy House

Today I have the sixth layout in my Collection Disconnection series for you. Can you believe that the series is more than halfway over already?! I can't.

The Crate Paper Wonder collection has beautiful colors of aqua, coral and yellow in somewhat subdued tones. I had some bright photos where my daughter was painting a fairy house, which I thought would look cute with the house puffy stickers in the collection, but the colors weren't quite a match.

Today I wanted to show you how you can change up the colors of the kit or collection to match your photos with a bit of mixed media. I chose gelatos, but you could use watercolors, acrylic paint, mists, or any other color medium you might have.

I painted the gelatos on the background and really didn't use much paper from the kit. I focused on the embellishments because I found that it was easier to make the smaller bits of color work with the brighter colors I wanted to go for.

You can see that I was able to incorporate those cute puffy houses, along with several other embellishments.

I kept the embellishments in colors. All of the blue embellishments went to the left where the blue gelatos were. All of the yellow/gold down the center, and all of the pink on the left. If you look closely, even the photos go blue, yellow, pink. That was a happy accident and I love it. :)

I cut up some of the glitter shapes to make photo corners. I have been finding lots of ways to use those, and I thought I wouldn't need them!

I used the gold corrugated alphabet for the title and added some india ink splatters with a large, round paintbrush at the end.

I like how this layout looks so different in style to the others in this series. If you want to see how this came together (well some of it...the second half is just a layout share because I forgot to turn my camera back on...oops!), you can watch it on my YouTube channel or below:

As always, I've linked to all available products below. Thanks so much for stopping by the blog!
