You know how there are always a few die cuts from those huge die cut packages that you don't know what to do with? Maybe not always, but most times. I made a layout using up all of those die cuts.
I think that mixed media is a great way to get the texture of the die cuts, but cover up the bits that might not fit with the theme.
I put them all over the background and then put a few layers of gesso over the top and some ink. I love the way the ink pools up around the edges.
I layered some papers around the photo, and used some of the stickers and die cuts around the bottom and left hand side of it.
I used the chipboard word in combination with the Charm Thickers for my title. I layered it over the photo to make everything feel like it coordinates.
I stuck to blue and that melon color. I did this on a previous layout, but I think when you focus on just a few of the colors in the collection, you can make it look very different.
This layout tells a story that is dear to me. It documents a belief. Watch the video below to find out more! You can also watch it over on my YouTube channel.

I loved them all but I think the first one (happy) was my favorite.

All of them are wonderful, but if I have to choose one - it would be Love Sweet Love.
ReplyDeleteI've just started watching your videos over at YouTube and I have to say I love them. My favorite video so far is Collection Disconnection #9 - Ariel, love using embellishments to help tell the story. Thanks for sharing all you fab videos and the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteReally enjoying your videos! My favorite from collection disconnection was probably the Ariel layout - partly because I enjoyed the design of it and party because I am also a reluctant cat owner!
ReplyDeleteAll of them I enjoyed watching but Brave Boy has touch my heart.
ReplyDeleteI think all of them were great, but I really loved Collection Disconnection #9-Grip.
ReplyDeleteBrave boy was my favorite. I loved the mixed media
ReplyDelete#3 love sweet love is my favorite...I would love to see you do this type of series with another collection. It was great!!!
ReplyDeleteLove sweet love was my favorite as well. I just recently got some of that collection, so I'll be peeking back at your pages for inspiration again.
ReplyDeleteI think this one is my favorite (Brave Boy) because you had some really bold paper that you used as a base and it worked! I have not used gesso and watching you use it is giving me some incentive to try it. Also using the diecuts only for their shapes vs their colors is something I am going to remember. Thanks for the inspiration to use up those last little bits.
ReplyDeleteI love this layout and the inspiration challenge you offered. You really got me thinking about a belief I hold dear. Now, to get it scrapped :) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt was hard to choose. I was pretty impressed with how #10 Brave Boy turned out. I was a bit doubtful in the beginning, but as usual you hit it out of the park. You amaze me. I think I'm going to go with #3 Love Sweet Love though. The colors worked beautifully together and it's just so visually appealing. Awesome series once again!
ReplyDeleteHard to choose a favorite - this was a great series! I think I'd have to go with #2 Grip... I love the focus on the more boyish colors in the collection and the design was simple yet striking!
ReplyDeleteI loved them all, but the designs of Happy and Grip the most. If I have to choose, it would be Happy as I love the photo and the way the clustering complements it. Loved this series!
ReplyDeleteIt was cool to see the variety of layouts. I think #7 was my favorite. I am so going to use the gesso over die cuts technique in #10. Such a great idea. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteSo many greats from this series, but I have to say I am always at a loss for what to do with left over bits and pieces. This Collection Disconnection is definitely a favorite to figure out how to use up those extra left over things. TFS and inspiring! Hugs, Kristina
ReplyDeleteThey have all been a great inspiration since I was creating along with you with the same kit! Maybe Cook boys is may favourite because that one really gave a different feel to the collection... Thank you so much for doing this and I hope you do it again soon :))
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun series! All the layouts were beautiful, and really showed the versatility of this collection! Hard to pick a fave, but I really liked Ariel and Love Sweet Love. :)

ReplyDeleteI think this series was a great idea, Jen, and I have enjoyed all the videos and resulting layouts. But I think my favorite was Love Sweet Love. I do a lot of my layouts with vintage family photos, and I love seeing how others use new products with older pictures. Thanks for all the inspiration! :-)

Jen, loved your Smoky Mtn. scrapbook video. My sister and I went there a couple of years ago and had such fun! I'm going to check out your blog right now.
